Shave or wax at least 24 hours before your appointment to prevent irritation and ensure a smooth, even tan. If you must shave or wax on the day of your appointment, rinse with cold water afterward to close your pores and avoid a spotty tan.

Question 2

Exfoliate for a Smooth Canvas

Accepted Answer

Exfoliate 24–48 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells. This will help your tan apply evenly and last longer. If you are a weekly spray tanner, please ensure you exfoliate your skin more than once. Spraying new tan over old tan is not the vibe we are going for.

If your skin is peeling, wait until it has fully healed before booking your tan, as peeling skin absorbs tan unevenly and fades in patches.
For best results:
Soak in a warm bath for 10 minutes to soften your skin.
Use a mitt or loofah to exfoliate. Concentrate on rough areas around your feet, elbows, knees.
Avoid harsh chemical exfoliants or alcohol-based products, which can dry out your skin.

Arrive at your appointment with clean, product-free skin. Avoid applying:
Moisturiser
Deodorant
Makeup
Perfume
These products can interfere with your tan, leading to uneven patches or discoloration.

Question 3

Hydrate Your Skin (But Not Too Much!)

Accepted Answer

Keep your skin hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment to ensure an even tan. However, do not moisturise on the day of your tan as this can create a barrier and lead to uneven absorption. Wait until after your initial rinse to resume moisturising.

I Have Recent Sunburn- What Do I Do?

If your skin has recently been exposed to the sun or is showing signs of sunburn, we recommend postponing your spray tan appointment. Spray tanning over sun-damaged skin can lead to uneven results, and in some cases, accelerate the peeling process.

While we will always do our best to achieve a beautiful, even glow, results cannot be guaranteed on compromised skin. For this reason, clients need to confirm on the day that they understand the tan may not be as perfect as it normally is.

If you have visible tan lines or strap marks, a spray tan can help to soften and blend these areas, but it will not completely eliminate them.

Question 5

Wash Your Hair Before Your Appointment

Hair products can affect your tan, which is why it’s best to wash your hair beforehand. Ensure all products are rinsed off properly. It is not the end of the world if you have to wash your hair after your spray tan. It's highly recommended to either use a hand held hose, or keep your body out of the water when washing, to ensure your tan isn't affected. Please note that the tan on your hands may wear off more quickly with hair washing.

Timing Your Tan

For best results, schedule your spray tan 2 days before your event. This allows the tan to fully develop and ensures any bronzer naturally fades for a flawless finish. Keep in mind getting your tan too early before an event can sometimes end in disaster, especially if your skin is extremely dry and you haven't prepped correctly. If you are headed away on holidays, getting your tan as close to take-off time is best (allowing for a rinse before you go, of course).

A: To ensure the best results from your tanning appointment at Glow Parlour, it's important to arrive prepared. Please come to your session without makeup, deodorant, moisturiser, or jewellery. These substances can create barriers on your skin that affect the evenness and longevity of your tan and ensure your appointment runs on time.

Is Tanning Safe During Pregnancy?

Expecting a little one doesn't mean you have to put your glow on hold! Our spray tans are completely pregnancy safe, and unlike traditional tanning methods, doesn't expose you to harmful UV rays.

We use premium, skin friendly solutions that are free from harsh chemicals, ensuring both you and your baby stay safe. Plus, the application is quick, and easier than applying self-tan at home.

Many mums-to-be love how our tans can boost confidence and help you feel like yourself again. Your pregnancy glow deserves a little extra glow-safely!

If you do have concerns, you can check with your OB or doctor. We do have a supply of face-masks available if you choose to wear one during your tan.

Question 9

I Need To Wear Deodorant On The Day Of My Tan- What Do I Do?

Whilst we do provide baby wipes to take off deodorant before your spray tan, conventional antiperspirants and clinical deodorants do stay on the skin. If your underarms start going green whilst we are tanning you, we will let you know. It will appear green and can make your armpits patchy and discoloured. Best thing to do would be to use a natural based deodorant like No Pong or Fussy- these tend to not go green when tan is applied.

I'm Really Sweaty- Will It Affect My Tan?

Whilst we do our best to blend the tan and ensure it is as flawless as possible, if you know you are a bit sweaty, please let our technicians know prior to your appointment. Adding on our Setting Powder to your tan will be your best bet in getting the tan to stick to your skin.

I'm On HRT- Can I Still Use It Before My Tan?

We have many clients that are on HRT and recommend applying the gel the night before their appointment for best results.

I Have Sensitive Skin/Allergies/Eczema/Psoriasis- Can i Still Get A Spray Tan?

Accepted Answer

In short, yes you can still get a Spray Tan. Please advise your tanning technician prior to your appointment.  Some of our tans contain nut oils, fruits, and other ingredients that clients may be allergic to. If you suffer with severe eczema or psoriasis all over your body, please be aware that the tan will grab to dry, sore skin. We do have solutions that are specifically made for sensitive skins, although we cannot guarantee the outcome.

In What Order Do I Book All Of My Beauty Appointments?

Your Spray Tan is the final appointment in the line-up. Skin Needling/Facials should be done first- normally at least 3 days prior. Waxing and Hair Removal- 24 hours prior. Laser hair removal cannot be performed if you have any excess tan on your skin. Brow Tinting- 3 days prior. We can apply vaseline over them if you have them done closer to your tan appointment. Lash Extensions- no later than 24 hours before your tan.Nails- anytime before your tan, as we do wipe over them  in your tan appointment. Please keep in mind to request no lotions/oils on your skin if you are coming straight from your nail appointment to have your spray tan. Sheet Masks can be put on top of your face tan, but on;y if they don't contain actives (retinol, vitamin c). Collagen and hydrating sheet masks are fine.
